Routes 2 Roots cultural education classes have not just enabled students and cultural enthusiasts across the
globe to learn about various Indian art forms, they have also spread the rich legacy of this cultural heritage
across the world like no other initiative has. Indian classical and popular art forms have captivated the
students from 84 different countries as they join classes remotely learning from Routes 2 Roots gurus and
experts. They have further been instrumental in propagating the art forms in their respective countries either
through their own performances or by teaching them to other admirers of the art forms.
Recently, Laly Balcazar who has been learning popular dance under the Routes 2 Roots cultural education program
taught the choreography she has been learning in her classes to students at the Indian dance centre in Cali,
Colombia. She, along with the group performed two pieces she learnt in class, ‘Ghumar’ and ‘Dhol Baaje’ at a
Holi celebration event in Cali and mesmerised the audience with their nuanced movements, expressions and
authentic Indian costumes.
Another enthusiastic participant Yu Feifei took inspiration from her dance class at Routes 2 Roots and performed
on an Indian song to celebrate the Vasanth Festival of Embassy of India in Beijing, China.
Besides being a joyous learning experience the recognition these participants have received from their local
communities is what makes the whole process memorable for them and us.
