The founders of Routes 2 Roots Tina Vachani and Rakesh Gupta held a meeting with Director General
ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural
Relations) K Nandini Singla to discuss the progress of the ongoing international digital classes held by the NGO in
collaboration with ICCR. These classes held in nine different disciplines of performing arts have benefitted students
across more than 74 countries. Curated by Routes 2 Roots and run through the NGO’s customised software, the classes are
attended in large numbers by enthusiastic art lovers and students who consider it a blessing to receive live, real-time
training in classical and folk art forms such as Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Hindustani Classical Vocal, Tabla,
Harmonium, Bollywood Dance, Madhubani and Henna Design. The classes have proved to be a boon for those interested in
learning about Indian culture while living away from India. In its second year, this program has gone from strength to
strength with some of the finest exponents of the art forms joining the faculty of Routes 2 Roots to disseminate
training and education to the students globally.
The meeting was a productive session where feedback and progress of the enrolled students was discussed and video clips
of the classes were seen by the Director General to get an overall sense of the content of classes and how they are
received worldwide. Future plans for upcoming joint projects were discussed between the two organisations including a
plan to expand art and culture education for the benefit of International scholarship students of ICCR, currently
stationed in India among many others. Deputy Director General S Gopalakrishnan and Director Sanjay Vedi were also
present in this meeting. A glance at some interesting moments from the meeting.
