Routes 2 Roots and Indian Council for Cultural Relations Organise Global Folk Art Workshop Series
Routes 2 Roots has always walked the talk when it comes to preserving and promoting Indian art and heritage, be it classical performing arts or folk art forms. In its 22-year awe-inspiring journey, the NGO has presented music concerts, dance recitals, Theatre and Film Festivals and Art exhibitions across India as well as overseas. On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, this month, a unique festival was held by Routes 2 Roots in association with Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) featuring 13 workshops of four folk art forms including Madhubani, Warli, Phad and Gond. Artistes from the native tribes who practise these arts in their villages across Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra travelled to Delhi to conduct the workshops curated by Routes 2 Roots and ICCR. The sessions held across 4 different time zones to cater to 3000 plus participants across 98 countries worldwide were a smashing success as enthusiasts as well as artistes from different countries joined to learn these timeless art forms from their authentic practitioners. The live sessions were translated in English to make them more comprehensible. The teams at the Routes 2 Roots studios worked round-the-clock to ensure every part of the world received a live session in their country. Participants turned out mesmerising pieces of art guided by these master artistes – Avdesh Kumar Karn (Madhubani), Dilip Rama Bahotha (Warli), Chotti Tekam (Gond) and Lokesh Joshi (Phad).
